How does that happen, she asked.
And the truth was, I didn’t know.
I mean, in retrospect, it’s easy enough to look back at a series of decisions that led to where you ended up.
But knowing that picking at the time would lead to this or that?
Well, that’s just not quite how it works.
Though there are predictabilities.
If you work out, and do it right, you will get in shape.
If you work out hard, and do it right, you will get in better shape.
Same thing with almost everything.
If you do A, then B is going to happen.
So making a choice some time ago, might get you to a predictable outcome.
Except when it doesn’t.
Like those times when logic defies prediction.
You do A, but Z happens.
And you’re left to wonder and ponder, what the actual F.
Part of it is dealing with other people.
I say dealing, because blaming other people gives them control.
It takes away responsibility and power, and promotes a victim mindset.
If the outcome is “they’re” fault, it’s harder to change and control or shift.
But if the outcome is “your” fault, the consequences of the choice or choices you made, it gives you another opportunity to change it.
From my perspective.
When you look at things that way though, like saying your choices dictate your life, and try to minimize the blame game, it changes your perspective on how to make choices.
The NEWS is great at convincing you to blame everything and everyone for anything that’s a problem.
They are doing this, and the economy is doing that, and murder and fear and Congress are all conspiring to make your world horrible.
It almost sounds like a conspiracy, doesn’t it.
They want to control your perspective so they can determine the outcome.
That being you sitting inside, glued to the TV, scared witless and buying drugs you see on the commercials between the bad news or canned laugh tracks.
Which is a choice.
A choice that can lead to consequences.
Consequences that can make you question and wonder how you ended up there once you come up for air.
The same can be said for being an entrepreneur or author or working in places you never thought you would be.
When it’s finally time to come up for air, you wonder, how did that happen?
