Wouldn’t it be nice, she said.
I had told her about a dream I had and I wished there was a way to wake up with it recorded.
I had a system of keeping a notebook on the nightstand and trying to catch thoughts and fleeting images from flashes of memories.
It wasn’t always easy to remember.
Easy to wish I could though.
Vivid dreams could turn into really intense stories.
I have scratches and snippets of them in dozens of notebooks.
Maybe dozens of dozens.
The I read about AI.
LLM to be precise.
Large Language Models are what they train ChatGPT, Bard and all the other whatever their names are.
And LLM can use a lot of info, like language, to extrapolate and interpret and predict things…
Like text.
You use it, sometimes, when you’re typing a text or an email and it predicts the next word or sentence…
That’s predictive AI working it’s magic behind the scenes.
Or behind the screen of your droid or iphone or tablet or laptop.
And I wondered if I could build a custom LLM based on all the books I’ve done, and use it to flesh out some dreams.
So far, it’s a back burner type plan.
Just a once upon a time type thing, sometime in the future, when things get a little slower.
And the AI’s get a little smarter.
Testing now tells me they are not.
We’re not there yet.
Close, but it’s not horseshoes.
Or hand grenades.
There are some explosive things on the horizon.
Don’t know how far that horizon extends but…
Can you imagine hooking up to a machine while you sleep that captures your dreams and puts them into a story format…
Or pictures.
I mean, some dreams I might not want to capture.
I don’t write in the “exotic erotic” genre, though my dreams can slip in that direction.
Or nightmares.
I don’t deal in horror either, and I don’t have that many nightmares, but I’ve talked to some people whose dreams would terrify me.
Think about your worst nightmare you’ve had-
Turned into an animated film.
Would it give everyone else the heebie jeebies?
But some dreams would be great stories.
Wouldn’t that be nice?
