It's 9AM
I'm sick of all these damn rules -
I want to talk about rules today.
The ones we are told to follow and the ones we should probably break.
You have probably heard about the 10,000 hour rule.
It says if you want to be a master at something you just have to put in the time.
Ten thousand hours of practice to reach the top of the mountain.
But the world has changed since that rule was written.
We live in a world where speed beats gravity.
Which means when you move fast you can defy the laws of nature.
If you want to survive and thrive as a modern creator you need to replace the 10,000 hour rule with the 10,000 experiment rule.
Because putting in the time is not enough anymore.
You have to test, tweak, and figure out what actually works.
I watch guys like Gary Vee talk about experimentation at scale.
He says you should post ten times more than you think on all platforms because nobody knows what is really going to work.
Nobody knows nothing for sure.
The secret of success is knowing the difference between ideas and action. You can sit in a room for ten thousand hours perfecting one single idea.
But what if nobody wants it.
What if you put it out there and all you hear are crickets.
That is the danger of the old rule.
You have to reduce the friction between your idea and execution.
Have an idea, make the idea, and put it out there into the world.
If people respond, do more of it.
If they do not, drop that ball and move on to the next project.
That is what it means to execute a rapid experiment.
I have done this with my own publishing business.
I do not just write one book and wait for the world to beat a path to my door.
I put out dozens of novels, short stories, and audiobooks across multiple genres.
I A/B test images, titles, headlines, and copy.
When an ad does not work, I pull it, rework the hook, and repost it.
You have to treat your life and your business like a lab.
Write, publish, measure, and repeat.
Some things will work.
Most will not.
But every failure is just data telling you to turn left instead of right. It is a signpost, not a catastrophe.
If you look at the successful creators today they are not relying on a sudden stroke of luck.
They are manufacturing their own luck through volume.
My grandfather taught me that if you are good, the more luck you have.
But if you are fast, the more luck you create.
Taking massive action forces you out of your own head.
You cannot afford to wait for gatekeepers to give you permission.
When someone tells you no, just smile and nod and know they are lying to you.
You can skip the gatekeepers entirely and go straight to your audience.
But to find that audience you have to throw a lot of ideas at the wall.
I practice writing down ten ideas every single day.
It trains my brain to be a solutions-oriented machine.
If you execute 10,000 rapid experiments you are going to find your blue duck.
You are going to find that one remarkable thing that people cannot help but talk about.
The market will tell you what works if you listen.
So stop planning for the perfect moment.
The perfect time is a ghost that does not exist.
Momentum is the only thing that kills fear.
Start shipping your work.
Make change a part of your routine.
Find what works, and do more of it.
