I blame the weather.
Or maybe, if I want to be in control, I blame the spinning of the sun.
Two things one hundred percent out of my control.
We had a long weekend of baseball and travel under crystal blue skies.
The baseball, not the travel.
The travel was done after dark, cruising 80 on the Interstate and glad for almost zero traffic on a Sunday night.
Except the after midnight bedtimes doesn’t make it easy.
I know that, some days, I don’t feel like I get enough sleep.
I know, I know, me and a million of my closest friends.
Still, there are no days to look forward to “sleeping in” for two weeks at least.
This weekend, we’re headed back into the mountains.
Which means up early Saturday because you can’t sleep in when there’s so much fun you can pack into a day.
And Sunday is waking up in a hotel, which means noise and a strange bed, so it’s wakey wakey for eggs and bakey.
Then Monday, it’s back to the grind, which isn’t so grinding, yet still requires eyes up and open by six a.m.
I’ve read about sleep being the most important thing for health and mind.
I’ve tried to explain it over and over again.
And her answer is, who has time for sleep?!?
Our lives are packed with “stuff.”
We race to school. Race to work. Race to exercise on weekends outside. Or race to vacations at tiny little theme parks in the mountains.
We race to get to baseball practice. Race to the grocer. Race to get stuff done.
And me, my day is packed with a list a mile long. No matter how much I get done, the list gets longer.
I edited and uploaded two hours of new Youtube content yesterday.
I filmed another hour of Youtube stuff.
I created and posted two videos to tik tok that nobody watched overnight. Yikes!
I edited fifty pages of a WIP.
I outlined a new WIP.
I wrote 2k words in blog posts.
I had an idea for a new story, flipped over and spent an hour outlining it, then while doing that came up with a marketing plan.
Washed the dishes.
Bathed the dog.
Bathed myself.
I scheduled promo days for future events.
Did a revenue versus expense review for November.
I got news about a new bike park being built, and did some land value research for a real estate project.
Which led me to an old idea about a coffee shop food truck or trailer going to events around the state AND every baseball tournament. No time to dig into the logistics or specifics, so I just tabled the idea for a week.
And, after making lunch, dinner, cleaning up, washing clothes and listening to the rain all day, I went to bed.
While I was brushing my teeth, I had an idea for an app like Tinder, where people can swipe through book covers, which made me think of grocery shopping and shopping from the couch. Swipe right to add to cart, swipe left to leave it alone.
Then, I lay down.
Said my prayers and begged to fall asleep.
While my mind worked on Brill, and Ben Logan and Beachhead and Battlefields. A long list of stuff I want to get done, I need to get done.
It made me think before I dropped down to deep.
There’s no rest for the weary.
I’m going to need a nap after this weekend.
