Monday was my birthday.

I celebrated with a twelve hour shift, followed by a cold beer and a game of Baggo or cornhole, depending on where you are in the USA.

Plus sushi and a black forest cherry cake.

I said it was my favorite so far, which wasn’t quite the truth.

I am dedicated to sharing my own truth all the time-

Except when it comes to getting gifts.

If someone goes out of their way then their choice is perfect.

My favorite cake is cheesecake.

Unless it’s cherry pineapple dump cake.

My Mamaw would make both for my birthdays growing up.

They were my Dad’s favorite and Dale was her favored son.

I got to enjoy them by default, and despite trying hundreds of cakes through the years, both made by store and made by other grandmothers-

And most especially made by me-

These two stand in my top slots.

The cherry cheesecake she made with Philly cream cheese, and a dump cake swirl.

We got them at Christmas too, because that’s when Dale come to visit, and although I’ve mentioned her treat table before, I’m not sure we’ve discussed the cakes.

I learned my love of cooking at her side, probably because she made so many good things to eat.

Sweets being a particular favorite of mine, I like to make them too.

And these two are on the list to make.

Except today, I’m getting a milkshake.

It will not bring all the boys to the yard, but it might take me to it.

Sitting in the sun, sipping on some frothy blend of ice cream and cookie dough, or a mocha shake, or a Reese’s cup, or a …

Geez, the choices sound so good I’m at an impasse of what to choose.
