I am older than Wilford Brimley
When he played a senior citizen in Cocoon
Older than Archie Bunker when he yelled Edith for the first time
Older than Mr. Roper when Jack moved in with Janet and Chrissy and tried to fool the world
Older than Alice in Alice but not as old as Alice's restaurant ever
Where I can get anything I want.
AARP has wanted me for the past few years.
They haven’t got me yet.
Its their 10% discount versus the image of myself.
The guy I see when I don’t look in the mirror.
Young. Ish.
Virile.
I feel something different from what other people see.
The new definition of getting older.
Ageing not quite with grace but child like curiosity.
And coffee.
Lots of coffee.
I guess it confuses me.
Tipping the scale at a few years over fifty with a plan and promise to hit fifty more.
At least.
That puts me squarely in the middle of my years.
Not in the associate of retired people.
Part of looking and feeling and acting younger than the cast of Cocoon is learning.
A constant state of creating new wrinkles in the gray matter.
And in a world that is in a perpetual state of change and evolution, learning something new every day is simple.
Pick something and try it.
Put on repeat.
Like making these types of stories (take 30 seconds to watch this)
Or creating these BRAND NEW THINGS just for fun
It makes me ask questions about what I’m sharing or telling you.
Like, is it worth it?
3000 people read It’s 9AM every day.
Not everyone clicks to help it grow, or clicks to buy books, but most of the time, I think that’s okay.
Because I’m learning every day and I’m in love with the process.
Process doesn’t pay the bills, small as they may be, and I need a car to get me from A to B
So I set a September goal of how to add $3,000 to my coffers to buy a beater, pay for tags, get insurance and buy some gas
And it’s easy to think that if everyone who read the daily just sent in $1, that beat up F150 would be in the driveway
Except I’ve learned it doesn’t work like that
I’m working on learning what does
Or if it even will
It might not work
That is something worth learning too and the only way to figure it out…
Practice.
Working at it.
Trying and testing and reading and watching and doing
Then trying again.
I do it with book genres. With audiobooks. With videos and content.
Articles and giveaways, and more.
Trying to adjust the sails on the fly when the wind doesn’t blow the way I think it should.
The way I want it to go.
Working at getting just 1% better every day.
Which is, I think, the fountain of youth.
