They will tell you no
The world wants you to be average.
we are trained by evolution not to stand out.
It has trained us to be average and normal.
There is a reason for this.
If you stand out in the tribe, a predator might notice you and attack.
So evolution automatically discourages us from doing anything different from what we consider the norm.
The world is full of people who will discourage you from doing anything that sets you apart.
When you share an idea,
they will try to talk you out of it.
They want you to do well
They want you to do good things
So long as you don’t do better than them
They want you to stay comfortable in the routine.
But routine by its very nature is doing the same thing over and over again, which can be a slow downhill slide to mediocrity.
Routine breeds indifference.
If you examine your life,
you will see that most of your fun, adventure,
and accomplishments come from doing something outside of the norm
or breaking the rules.
You have to ignore the crowd
try something new.
You have to build your blue duck.
A blue duck is never routine.
It is not what anyone expects.
You have to ask yourself what you actually want
The secret of success is knowing the difference between ideas and action.
Everybody has ideas, but not everybody puts them into action.
To stay the course when everyone wants you to be average,
you have to rely on plain old “ass in seat” grit to do the work.
Big success stories actually come from the cumulative effect of little things done daily.
And sticking with it
Because being outside the norm is…
Hard
When everyone around you is applying pressure to be normal just like everyone else
It’s tough
A thousand voices saying “you’re not good enough”
Compete with the voice inside your head that says, “Maybe I am.”
And every time I hear that chorus start striking up to begin the assault
I quote a man who knew a thing or two about working outside the made up laws of society
“Never tell me the odds.”
If you get just a little bit better every day,
at the end of a year,
you will be awesome.
Find your one percent improvement for today.
Stop waiting for permission to stand out.
You could be the exception.
