How to lose weight?
Eat less.
Move more.
Drink 1 ounce of water for each pound of weight every day.
It is the most effective and unbeatable formula for trimming up and slimming down and anyone can do it.
Except we don’t.
We know exactly what we need to do and we choose not to do it.
I mean, we’re good at making excuses why.
I can’t walk, so I can’t move more.
Even if moving more means arms or twists or finding a way to make it happen.
We can’t eat less, because that would make us hungry, even though the 1 ounce per pound of water would fill that void.
This simple solution that anyone could use falls into the categories of other simple things we can do, but choose not to.
Because…
Because is the greatest excuse ever written.
I can’t start a new business online because…
I might fail.
People might think I’m stupid.
What if people watch me fail?
But what if… people don’t care because they are self involved in their own petty dramas and excuses.
Sure, if you try to be different from everyone else, the pack mind will work hard to bring you down and put you in your place.
Because no one likes it when anyone they know does better than them.
I was putting books up for sale on Google Play, and realized how many times I’ve told you guys how many I’ve written.
So I put it out there and guess what the first answer was.
Not “Congratulations on completing over 100 written projects that bring some people who enjoy that sort of thing joy.”
Nope.
The first comment was “Some of those are short novellas.”
Huh?
The second was “I don’t read.”
From a guy oddly enough who didn’t enjoy reading in high school and was forced by the teacher to sputter and stutter at the front of the class reading some bullshit literature from Shakespeare where she corrected and embarrassed him about pronunciation, cadence, etc.
No wonder he doesn’t read for fun now!
But for me, I don’t give a crap about him.
Or the short book person.
Jack London didn’t give a rip when he wrote Call of the Wild.
Some editor who needed to eat less and move more was sitting on their couch being a critic while Mr. London was riding a sled across the Artic or chopping down tress in a lumber camp.
Because…
People like to complain.
They like to point out the faults in others.
They get small tiny pleasures from being critics and the internet has given them a few people who might agree with them.
Or a lot of people who might agree with them.
And because they hold an opinion that is shared by more than one person, they “think” it makes them right.
They are not.
Opinions are not the laws of physics or even gravity.
Opinions are not right.
Ever.
An opinion can be “less wrong” but almost everything depends on situation and definition and perception.
Including losing weight with simple easy formulas.
Sometimes, it doesn’t work.
We don’t know why.
It should work. It has worked. But there are always exceptions.
Which is why you should try out anything you would like to do and ignore the opinions and comments and advice of the crowd.
Because you could be the exception.
You are the exception.
I worked on my author bio for Google Play a bit, typing and retyping it as I entered in details for books.
Here’s what I landed on to copy and paste into a Word Doc and use for a long time.
Or until I change my mind:
“It takes a ton of discipline to write a novel. Chris Lowry has written over 100 in six genres. That same ass in seat grit to get after it is the reason he's run 100 mile races, and 50 mile rucks, kayaked the Mississippi River and hiked from the beach to the mountains and back again. When he's ass out of the seat, he's rehabbing old homes to save a small town he can't help but love and managing a small media company making entertainment content for online channels.”
I mean, that should really get the couch crowd really fired up!
