I practice something every day.
Write down ten ideas.
I know the mind isn’t a muscle.
It’s a big blob of cholesterol and fat, conducting electricity at a rate beyond imagination.
It processes thousands of pieces of information each second, most of it you don’t even know about.
Breathing, heart rate, all the juices moving and slewing inside of you.
It is an amazing thing.
And one you can start to feel like you’re losing if you don’t practice.
Like ideas.
Which are simple.
A pizza trailer food truck only serving slices.
A self serve soft serve ice cream trailer.
A TV Show about “MADE IN STATE” products, like a local QVC. No chains allowed.
And more.
Lots more.
I practice writing ten ideas a day to keep me thinking.
One of the ten ideas a day was to start a cooking show. Remember when I talked about how much my Mamaw’s cooking affected me? Memories of baking with her, and the Christmas snack table and a million other little things really pop up between now and the new year.
I think I learned that from her. Show the people you love how much you love them by making them something to eat.
I may not be alone in that.
So when I run across a recipe that sounds delicious (AIR FRYER DONUTS!) I save it.
Sometimes I try it, but I think I have about a hundred different things to cook or bake and I don’t see why I can’t make a cooking show out of it.
Just a little thirty minute fun stop on Youtube.
Partly to prove a point. Two points, really.
In 2004, when my gym shut down, I had an idea. Youtube was new-ish, and I still had the film/tv bug going.
Someone asked me what I was going to do next.
I said I had an idea to make a cooking show, and buy a thirty minute slot on TV and find sponsors.
They said it wouldn’t work. No one would watch. It was a stupid idea.
All the things I heard when I said I was going to Los Angeles to write and direct movies.
All the things I heard when I said I was going to rehab houses and buy a gym and start any business.
The idea of me making a cooking show pissed them off so much, they found started a mob against it.
Suddenly, I had dozens of friends and family telling me how dumb it was.
And I listened to them.
Have you ever heard the expression, death by a thousand cuts?
I wonder sometimes if that’s how most people end up in lives they just don’t like, because they listen to everyone else and ignore the voice in their heart.
Here’s the thing.
What if I would have shot ten thirty minute cooking shows and put them on a cable station?
Would anyone have died? Would the world have come to an end?
What if it failed?!? Gasp.
It might have. I’m not Rachel Ray.
But why is failing such a bad thing?
I wish we could flip that mentality to the whole batting average script.
A Major League player fails almost seven times out of ten at bat.
What if you listened to your inner voice, ignored all the critics and did what you loved?
Do you love ten things? If you had ten ideas a day, you might!
My point is, the reason you work on ten ideas every day is to find the intersects of what you love, and then, maybe, do that.
I know someone who loves their Job. They love going to the place. They love interacting with the people. And they love the steady paycheck.
Their job defines them.
If that’s the case, my job should be Think Tank.
I’m an author, who makes money from books and audiobooks, to invest in crypto and stocks to generate returns to buy real estate.
I also happen to be an expert in urban planning, marketing and a few other things.
All of which make me a SME on a lot of trades, and a master of none.
I’m okay with that. Sometimes.
I want you to go do something you love.
Let me know, because I’m going to be your number one fan.
Go play. Go do. Go make and create.
You’ve got this.
