You can’t always get what you want
The philosophers sang
But if you try
Sometimes
You get what you need
I need a new used truck
An set of wheels, really.
What I call an A to B car
Something that will move me from point A to B
The ideal plan is a van
Take out the back seats, turn it into a camper van
And I kill a couple of birds with one stone
But I start with plan A and adjust as I go
It starts with this system
Set SMART Goals And Make Plans
Take Consistent Action With Discipline
Embrace Continuous Learning And Growth
Prioritize Self-Care And Well-Being
Build Relationships And Networks
Reflect And Adapt Regularly
Manage Time And Maximize Productivity
Plan Finances For The Long Term
This is the system I use for just about everything
Except for the self care and well being
Which I usually put on the to be done tomorrow list
Unless you count exercise and eating right, which I try to do
Most of the time
But a SMART goal for a truck/get me there wheels is
Simple
Measurable
Attainable
Relevant
Time bound or Deadline
All of which are good to go
Simple. I want a vehichle so I can go back and forth to places.
Measurable. I want $2k for a beat up old pick up truck that ain’t pretty but has a decent engine. An older model F150 would work fine. I can get 300k out of that engine.
Attainable. I could set a goal for a 10k truck or even more, or plan to finance one, but this is just a step one set of wheels, a sort of six to nine month plan so I can get up and go while I do something else
Relevant. At the moment, I am in a rural part of Arkansas, and while I’m okay with running or biking to get to where I need to get, the infrastructure around me is not designed for it.
Time Bound. I want to have it up and running by the end of September. A deadline.
Which gives me 20 days.
There are a couple of ways I think this can happen.
One. I have 10 big boxsets of books.
How can I sell 20 of each set?
Or how can I sell 5 on each platform?
Kobo/Barnes and Noble/Payhip/Draft2Digital and/or Shopify
Two. I have boxes of stuff sitting in an attic and in a storage unit.
How can I flip on ebay/craigslist/etsy/mercari and 50 things for $40?
Three: Other methods like:
How can I find 50 subscribers to upgrade It’s 9AM?
I have a few other thoughts and or methods that could deliver some results, but they would take time that extends past the deadline.
Like: Use AI to create a course on TEACHABLE and find 50 learners at $40
Have a tiny garage sale.
And of course, the always reliable ROB A BANK
Though the get away with it ROI is low on that last one.
The reason I want a pick up truck though is because I think it can enhance some near future plans.
And if those plans fall apart, at least I’ll have a place to put my tent, sleeping bag, and camp stove in the back and go sit somewhere to catch a few sunsets while I contemplate what’s next.
