It might be time to get a logo.
Or a watermark.
Something to think about in my already occupied mind today.
I’ve been plotting.
I’ve been dreaming.
I’ve been doodling notes as I can.
And then, when I sit, trying to recapture some of the momentum, despite the dozens of other big ideas swirling around like noseeum’s.
And there’s a reason why they are swirling.
Because…
Every so often, I get reminded.
I know what I’m doing.
When I choose to do it.
I’ve practiced enough and read enough and seen enough and done enough that when the dots align, and I’ve got a clear path, it’s probably going to work.
Like an idea I had for a dilapidated mall in my hometown.
It’s been closed for almost a decade and now is in a distress sale.
I think a LOT of commercial real estate is going to be in a distress sale in the next few years, but this particular piece of property is cheap.
For the square footage.
I mean, it’s hard to call 7 million cheap, even if it is a bargain by comparison.
But…
I was talking with one of the Dads from LA (lower Arkansas) who used to be an insurance agent and is now the President of a bank.
I asked how his job was going and if he liked it.
He said commercial lending was rough, because of interest rates and the state of the economy in his part of LA.
I told him about the mall, how I needed 10 million bucks and I’d build an SAL facility in one of the old anchor box stores.
An SAL is a senior assisted living facility and as the biggest population boom in American history ages up, it is one of the fastest growing sectors.
A beautiful three story 60-100 room facility facing the Saracen Casino across the road, with a pedestrian park and fountain garden between and a bike walking path connecting them.
The casino is building a new hotel and that side would get the view of the gardens and fountains and a stately white colonial style building.
The Dad said he had a friend in the facility biz in Monticello and a few other towns and that they were growing and expanding for that same reason.
Not enough space.
We talked about it for a few moments, and the next day, I got a digest in my inbox from a magazine called AMP. Arkansas Money and Politics.
One of the articles was about the growth of Senior Communities and SAL’s, and how even as they’re adding hundreds of rooms, Arkansas has a shortage.
So I copy and pasted and sent the link to the Dad.
It doesn’t prove anything.
Except…
If you have an idea, you should think about it, then work it out in your head and share.
Ideas are easy and cheap and everyone has them.
The tough part is action, and I talked about that before.
Sitting down, writing the stories, making the videos, or ordering them made, those are all actions toward a goal.
Calling a broker and putting together offers, and working with AI to build renderings, those are actions.
The toughest part for me is sharing.
Not with you, but with people who don’t consider me for that particular role.
I mean, I’ve rehabbed and sold a dozen homes, but on one would consider me a real estate developer.
Even if I think of that as one of my skill set.
The same with running a media company.
I’ve got a Youtube channel that just qualified to be monetized, and a second one up and running that will get there almost three times faster based on what I learned from the first one.
Thanks to you.
Actions are always going to beat ideas, and as I’ve said before, I am an idea man.
Lots of ‘em.
Like my ideas for what to do with the Youtube channel. A series of original sci fi and urban fantasy stories, illustrated with AI animation and narrated by a pro.
All in the works.
All happening.
And all I want to happen faster because speed is a factor to success.
Like making a bid on the mall, which I haven’t done because I can’t think of how to come up with the portion of the money I’d need.
Like playing around in my mind with USDA loans and wondering if there are commercial applications for that particular line, and doing more research.
Along with the next book, and the next audiobook and the next video.
Stuff to do, and stuff to think about doing and stuff to wish I knew how/what to do.
Time to start learning.
