Cast Iron Car Camper
It’s an idea.
Another idea.
I told you about the vanlife idea.
I told you about the homestead idea.
It’s all based on a roadmap someone built first.
Nate Petroski.
I might have misspelled his name.
Narroway homestead.
And the new Theresaway Homestead.
Nate and his boss, Minion moved to the woods in West Virginia.
He was a contractor who bought a 100 acres, with a clearing on top of a tree covered mountain at the end of a dirt road.
He fixed up a camper to live in, with a rainwater collection system for water, a solar array to power the things he wanted in life.
Like a gaming system, something he enjoyed doing, and other electronics.
He planted a garden and got chickens.
Traded the chickens for ducks.
Got a couple of cats for pest management.
And…
After a year, began filming it with his phone.
He started making videos for Tik Tok.
He says it is at the behest of Minion.
A smart gorgeous tiny dog.
Minion directed him to build an outdoor kitchen.
A duck coop.
A pond.
And more.
All the while, he just shot video of what he had done, what he planned to do, and what he was doing.
He filmed Minion and the cats.
He filmed cooking food on a wood stove and chopping wood so that he could stay warm in winter.
He reviewed beers and ceilings and how stuff is built.
He got better.
Better at editing, the more he did it.
Better at talking on the camera.
He found stuff that worked and made more of it.
Minion was pleased.
He was promoted to Lord Minion, king of the Hundred Acres.
Helped Nate start a beard care and essential oil online company.
Helped him start a custom coffee company.
Used his Tik Tok following to grow those companies while showing his life on the homestead.
And kept growing.
Because I liked him on Tik Tok, the app showed me more like it.
That’s how the algorithm works.
Shows you more or what you like or know.
But it can also show you HOW to do something.
Like ScottyKFitness.
A fireman who was also a personal trainer.
Who wanted to show people how to cook better healthier versions of the food he liked to eat.
He blew up too, based on his very unique personality.
No dogs. No cats.
Just cooking and some catchphrases.
People, doing what they like to do and sharing it on socials.
It is a lesson I learned in 2020, and have not started doing yet.
Because…
Because why?
I wonder if anyone would watch?
Because I share the work I write, and videos I create, but not the stuff about me?
Easier to think with my fingers than letting my mouth do the talking.
But that does not feel like enough.
Not in the way the world is changing.
I think this “formula” the film it and share it, and learn from it would work for a lot of people.
Maybe I should be one of them.
