I watched 3 Body Problem this weekend on Netflix
I was dog sitting for over a week, which meant cold A/C, soft mattress and canine companionship for hours on end
Two cuddle monsters who curled up on the loveseat cushion next to me
In the seat that was mine for ten years
One against my leg, the other on the other side, but one front paw or back stretched out enough to touch mine
I watched the show when it first came out and liked it
But… it was hard to follow along in some parts
For me at least
Probably because I was doing something else while it was on
The first time
This time though, my back was giving me problems
For what reason I don’t know why
I know it’s an old injury from thirty years ago, riding in the back of a truck that flipped and tossed me a couple hundred yards
To land rolling and flipping and spinning
I was wearing a pack at the time, so my back didn’t get scraped
But my arms and elbows and face slowed me down in the tumble
And much like the old expression goes from plane crashes
Any wreck you can walk away from is a good one
I would almost add any you can crawl and stumble to your feet and spin around to check your six
And check your buddies who decided to take flying lessons with you
And only after the adreniline wears off do you feel that twinge
That little knifepoint that lets you know one of your super strong discs likes to slip over every so often and jab a nerve
Now, it happens less often, but all it takes is a sneeze or smile or standing on concrete for a couple of hours
Or sleeping wrong, sitting wrong or trying to do Romanian Dead Lifts with a heavier than usual weight
Which reminds me, I need to start doing yoga again
But it’s hard to do yoga or go running or lift much while I wait for it to slide back into place
So a good way to wait is watch a movie, or show, which I love to do anyway
So win win
And when I saw 3 Body Problem pop up on my recommendations, despite having watched it a couple of years ago
I clicked play
Because…
I read the book this summer.
Which I recommend.
Highly.
It is a little difficult at times to follow along.
That’s more me than the book, I think.
There were a lot of Chinese names, so keeping characters straight in my mind was a struggle
But it was a book I really enjoyed
AND
It made the show even better
Even though they made a signifigant departure from the novel
Because when I saw a scene that before, felt out of place or made me wonder why a time jump was happening
Now I could understand better
And even though they introduced new characters and new storylines and moved everything from China to the UK
It was still good
Good book
Good show
And great company
A life filled hunting for perfect moments and learning to love them as they happen
Here’s hoping you hae more of those too
