When you swear to tell the truth

Are we ever Completely honest?

I wonder.

Sometimes I know I’m telling a truth.

It’s my truth.

And it doesn’t match up with the person I’m talking with.

They have a different truth.

Are we both lying?

How can there be different truths?

It’s bias.

Unintentional thoughts embedded in the way we grew up, in the way we think, in the sum total of our experiences.

Her experience was different from mine.

Yet we both ended up in the same spot, drinking beer and talking to each other.

Sharing truth.

If I’m being honest, I want to be a well paid writer. I love writing. I love telling stories.

I have been a paid writer. A sometimes well paid writer. I worked in film in LA for a couple of years and the money was good.

I thought I was a smart investor. Put most of it in a couple of tech stocks. Apple and a grocery delivery service.

Then Steve Jobs got fired. Apple tanked.

A friend said I should sell it and use the loss as a tax write off to off set a big check I was getting from a studio.

I did.

Then Jobs came back. Introduce the iphone, ipad and all the istuff.

The stock I bought for 40 something and sold at 22 is trading at over 100.

Such is life.

I wrote some more.

I started a publishing company in 2012. Found success on kindle.

Kept writing. Kept making a little bit of money.

In 2017, I did really well.

Then it dwindled.

I know why. I know the reasons.

I’m good at making excuses.

It just requires me being honest with what went wrong. What went different.

And how to change it.

I love telling stories that people like to read.

Sometimes they can’t find them.

It’s my job to be found. To keep writing, and publishing IF that’s the job I want.
