I’m head down in the middle of this brand new series, and I want to do something special for it. Any ideas?
It starts with trying, I said.
It’s stupid, she shot back.
She was right.
It was.
Is.
Just a tik tok template of me wearing sunglasses with money floating down from the sky.
She was mad because I don’t have money floating from the sky and said I was trying to fool people into thinking I did.
I said it was a tik tok filter and it didn’t mean anything.
I was experimenting.
Who is right?
Is Tik Tok a lie!?
I think it is.
I think it can be.
Even people trying to present the “truth THEY don’t want you to know” are only showing a perspective.
Things aren’t always as they seem.
Pennies are not falling from heaven thanks to a 15 second post.
But the post showing the book pages flipping which was used by thousands to sell thousands didn’t work for me.
And if you dig deep into the booktok author world, it turns out that page flipping thing didn’t work for a lot of them for a lot of times…
Until it did.
Or thye found something that did work.
Which makes me think of marketing in general.
Sometimes it works.
And it’s hard to recall the ones that didn’t work because they were just so…
Forgettable.
I mean it didn’t sell anything, I can’t tell you what it was for, but I still sing a super bowl song from a couple of years ago called “puppy monkey baby.”
Did that work?
Was it a success?
I get where she’s coming from.
She is still so afraid that selling books and earning an income online isn’t real.
It’s not a real job that runs 9-5 or 7-3.
I don’t go anywhere to do it or I can go anywhere to do it.
And she doesn’t know anyone making money with an online business except Multilevel Marketing Folks and maybe she’s afraid I’m signing folks up in a pyramid scheme.
To be honest, once the criticism starts, I tune out.
I’ve got enough distractions and voices telling me it won’t work, won’t work out, ain’t good enough, never good enough, going on from the man in the mirror that there’s no room for one more.
Besides, it’s just one 15 second moment in time.
Forgotten by me until they brought it up.
With the words, “What would other people think?”
The ones who matter would say “nice try.”
The ones who don’t can say what they like.
So long as they both are buying books or clicking the subscribe button or otherwise supporting this growing small business thing we’re doing.
We will keep trying.
