It's 9AM
I like having fun.
It’s what I told the guy in the new job interview.
It’s really how I like to spend my days.
I’ve got an angry look all of the time.
I blame my receding hairline, my aching back and the fact that the world is full of idiots.
I’m sure it’s full of angels too, except they don’t make as much noise as idiots.
I put idiots on par with Nazis.
Which makes me look like I’m pissed off.
Even when I’m LOL on the inside.
LMAO on the inside.
It’s more fun to laugh.
And it’s fun to look for reasons to laugh.
Having fun with work is one of them.
The interview is with an ad agency, but not as a marketing person, which I’ve made a great study of over the past five years.
It’s in my wheelhouse as a Project Manager.
Lining up the pieces and putting them in place, setting deadlines with the team and making magic happen.
The title sounds boring even if the day to day is not.
I did well enough the first time around that I get an in person talk today.
With both agency owners.
Which makes me want to laugh to get this RBF look off my face.
The most exciting aspect of the job is getting off the overnights and reclaiming weekends.
Overnights are killer, and it takes me a little time to recover.
I’m excited to remove the brain fog that feels like I’ve been living under for months.
Because there are some killer plans in the works.
The ducks are lined up for some cool AI assisted audio only stories, using an art generator to create the pictures, using an editor to turn those pictures into a video, and posting up a series of animated stories on Youtube.
Cover ducks for brand new covers for brand new stories.
Audio ducks for brand new audiobooks.
And maybe even a Kickstarter for the animated stories because I think the picture books would make a great gift with a toy, so it’s exploring packaging and shipping and etc options.
All of which takes an hour or so a day to line up, set up, write instructions and parcel out.
Then it’s ass in the seat and fingers on the keyboard.
Before Admin work, like completing the GOING WIDE project.
So many exciting things in the works, it’s easy to spend time on the big picture and think about what steps are involved in the backwards planning.
Every mission after action review begins with the kernel of an idea.
An if/then scenario or a what if brainstorm session.
Then take what works, trim the rest, and do it again.
Routine makes it all easier, which is why I’m such an advocate for a disciplined routine.
But there are other things that help.
The new job, if I get it, would be in downtown.
One block from the River Trail where I love to run.
What a great way to avoid traffic, get in some miles and get back to the running routine.
If it happens.
It’s like putting the car keys in the same spot every time you walk through the door.
A routine that saves time, energy and effort that can be put towards more important things.
Like the process of putting together novels, and posts, and videos and more.
Which I tried to explain in the interview.
The end product is great, whether it be commercial or radio spot or digital campaign or video on Youtube, or podcast or novel.
But the fun part for me is the process.
And if you fall in love with the process, then you can’t help but have a good time.
What are you in love with today?
Speaking of video/audio, check out this 3 minute story and let me know what you think.
