The Truth about Consequences
I’m living with a pragmatist.
She doesn’t see magic in rainbows.
A cloud looks like a cloud.
There are no dreams worth chasing so might as well not talk about them.
Or speculate.
Or plan.
I know I drive her crazy.
I drive everyone crazy.
I get the look a lot.
That one that asks, “Just who the Hell do you think you are?”
The look that wonders, “Get a load of this guy.”
Because I am a dreamer.
The worst kind.
A dreamer who does.
I wish I was more balanced with pragmatism.
I tend to think the best of people.
Except when they’re driving.
I like to think I recognize things wrong with the world, and also that the idea of what’s wrong is only my opinion.
I look at Main Street in a small town and see it filled with people lounging, people strolling and shops thriving.
Small business America doing what made this country great.
Not falling buildings and bums in the alleyways begging for pocket change to buy smack.
Or crack. Or MD 20/20.
But America was never really like that.
The strolling shiny happy people part.
It’s always had bums.
Always had a version of crack and smack attacks.
Always a bunch of rainbows and gray spaces.
Places where “it depends.”
