It's 9AM
I had a visit with some ghosts last night.
Some time between 2:00 and 4:00 am.
I dreamed about a high school reunion and the people I went to school with.
Some were my age now, but some were still the age they were when we were together.
Way back when.
And what was weird were the people who are no longer with us.
Cliff died in ’87 after a rollover accident on the way back from a college visit to LA Tech.
Debbie died after her Jeep crashed into a tree in ’88.
Chuck, who shot himself at 13 because a girl broke his heart.
And Matt, who got shot when he pulled a pistol out of a glovebox and dropped it in the floorboard.
He was Chuck’s best friend and only 15 when it happened.
But they all showed up, along with the people still around and still my age.
The dream seemed to go on forever, which was fun, and nice.
There were appearances by girls’ I liked and girls who turned me down for dates, and even with gray hair’s and wrinkles, they still looked as good to me today as they did way back when.
The weird part to me is why?
I haven’t been thinking much about high school, though I have been thinking about home a lot.
I always do when the weather turns cold, because of fires and the upcoming holidays and more.
But then, I think of home in winter, and summer and spring too, because you can never go back, or it’s never the same.
Except in dreams.
And even then, mixing up teens in a class reunion mixer while music from the 70’s plays, seems like my brain is doing a blender imitation.
Fun to remember though.
Maybe this one I won’t wonder why so much, and just chalk it up to restless spirits.
I wonder who will haunt me next?
