It's 9AM
When I was a younger man and married, Sundays were for napping.
Napping was a code word that we sort of developed by accident.
Up early on Sundays, eat a little breakfast, then go back to bed with a nod and a wink and a soft whisper.
“Want to go… take a nap.”
There was a little snooze involved.
After.
But we evolved out of taking naps on Sundays.
Too much work, too much to do once we bought a house and started businesses or working for others.
Napping, for real or implied, became a luxury.
Of sorts.
As I got older, napping seemed like such a waste of too little time.
Until I started running.
There is nothing a body craves more after eighteen miles than a quick snooze.
And a snack.
But some days feel custom made for a little lie down.
Gray clouds cover the skies.
Misty drizzle turns the world fuzzy.
It’s starting to feel cold and wet and the night before was a bit of a chore because
The weather affects the dogs too and they want to go in and out to see what’s about as possoms and coons and even a deer or two wander on or outside the fence.
Restless nights lead to tired days where the only cure is a quick twenty minutes.
Close your eyes.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
And count until the world goes soft and memories turn into dreams.
