I got caught up in the Mr. Beast trap.
No, he didn’t offer me thousands of dollars to stand in a circle longer than anyone else.
I saw a video he made for Youtube on my Instagram feed.
And got sucked in.
It makes sense.
He’s made a study of what makes people watch and then designs all of his videos for it.
Probably why he’s made so much money on Youtube.
Had more views than the Super Bowl.
Super Bowls.
He found out what people liked, and did more of that.
I had never seen him before.
Not his videos anyway.
I had seen Jimmy, the guy who is Mr. Beast, on Joe Rogan and a couple of other podcasts.
He was explaining how he did what he did, which is make videos that people want to watch.
And more importantly, why he did what he did.
He liked entertaining people.
Which resonated with me.
It spoke to me.
Because it is what I like to do.
I use words, but at one point, I used images.
Or I guess I still do, since I’m topping 13 Million views for photos on Google, and get selected as cover images at least once a month.
But I was thinking of making films back in the day.
And what I liked to watch.
Or like to watch.
Sid and Marty Kroft did a lot of shows I liked.
Clips and sketches and quick tid bits.
HR Puffinstuff.
Land of the Lost.
Plus the two women featured above, who became featured in a few sultry dreams later on.
People wonder where I get my attraction to strong women from need look no further than this dynamic duo.
And Linda Carter.
And Jaime Sommers.
They entertained me and ingrained in me, and titillated me.
I might make a few confessions if I was wearing the lasso of truth.
But back to the lecture at hand.
Electra Woman and Dyna Girl (in dire need of a comeback, hello Streamers!) popped up in shorts on the Banana Splits Show.
Three to five minutes long and look at the entertainment impact they had.
I’ll spend some time today thinking and considering which other shorts on the show deserved a long form spin off, and if any got one.
Who doesn’t travel back in time, at least in their mind, every so often and wonder these things?
Just off the top of my head, I think it was a Schmoo, or Smoo?
What was the white blob called?!?
Started as a shorts cartoon, got picked up for a thirty minute cartoon, and they made toys from/about it.
It was huge in France, I think.
And apparently in seven or eight year old minds in LA too.
Lower Arkansas.
The old gray mare ain’t what she used to be, but she can always go to the inside on the backstretch and outrun my recall.
Lucky for me, I have you for help.
Just to remind me of what I’m remembering sometimes.
And to add to it with memories of your own.
Like a gumbo of nostalgia.
Now that’s a cooking show I would watch on Youtube.
I sent this on Saturday, but because you’re on my VIP list, you can still get it today.
