What are you waiting for, she asked.
It was a good question.
Sometimes when things go down a pathway and you are filled with expectations for what should happen on that journey, you wait.
Instead of make.
Making it happen.
I’ve talked about this in a few novels.
How everything is fifty fifty.
Either it will or it won’t.
But taking action is the key to either way.
Move left and it will happen.
Move right and it won’t.
Except the times you line up all the dominos and they don’t fall the way you want.
Maybe one thing is out of line, one thing is off.
And then you have to line them up again, which can be frustrating.
Saying expressions like “love the journey” is an easy platitude.
Especially to one trained so well to endure discomfort.
Disciplined enough to understand that the routine is key.
Even if the routine hurts and sucks and needs to be endured.
Because on the other side of whatever you define as success are a whole new set of problems.
Or opportunities to learn.
I’m waiting for this newsletter to kick off-
I’m waiting to finish three more books so I can rapid release a new series.
I’m waiting to hear back from four jobs.
Waiting to earn a little extra to promote some back list titles.
Waiting to add 5 more subs to the Youtube channel.
Waiting for more time, which is always in short supply.
And of course, waiting for warmer days now that the season is over and we have a three month break until travel ball starts up again.
The thing I’m not waiting for is being grateful.
I’m up and moving. Success.
I have food. Success.
I have shelter. Success.
Fingers that work, even if the mind doesn’t want to concentrate on magic and witches and wizards.
Or mysteries.
It’s a fine line between being content, which I will never be because my ambition runs too deep, and complacent.
Maybe you’re just waiting for the right motivation.
