How Many Do You See? I shot this on my run yesterday/ let me know what you see
I went for a walk/run on Friday night chasing sunsets
and came back on the edge of twilight to a city skyline lit up like a Christmas tree laying on it’s side
The Travs were playing a home game on one side of me
And I jogged past the guys setting up for the fireworks show
Part of me wanted to stop and watch
Not the set up
But the explosions go boom boom in the nighttime sky
Except…
I was tired
I have a goal to run 2 miles for every beer I drink at a Happy Hour when I visit my favorite brewery
And a long game in Atlanta I was watching on my phone
Where my favorite 13 year old player got a grand slam
Had me four beers deep
Which called for 8 miles in the waning heat
Dropping from “feels like 109” to a balmy 95
So I ran all the way from downtown out to the edge of Burns Park and beyond
Sweating off everything I drank and more
Eight turned to Ten because I was there
And watching the sun go down
So I was grooving
Then turned back so I wouldn’t do most of the Trail in the dark
I was too tired to stay and found out why when I got back from the run and stepped on the scale
I lost 7. something pounds running
Sure, it was just water, but that’s a lot of liquid to drop in a few short hours
Even if I was hydrated from Mexican lager with extra limes
So I sat on the sofa and drank a few big glasses of water to top off the tank
And be ready for the run the next day
Which you can see above
Hotter still than the evening run with a “feels like 110”
All that rain that turned the earth to mush was being cooked up out of the ground by a sun that felt pissed at something
Making the air thick, and the sweat slick
Making the pavement sticky and around the edge of the corner, half a mile from the house
I heard something running in the greenbelt that separated a neighborhood from the back road
Something big and crashing through the bush
So I froze and stared and saw this-
Standing there long enough for me to pull my phone out of pocket and click on video and capture what I could
Dappled in sunshine laced shadows
Hidden in plain sight
A treat for the eyes and possibly the soul and I waited until they moved for me to start moving again
Opposite directions, them one way and me the other,
And their white tails way more fleet than I would ever be
Bounding through the underbrush, leaving me with a memory

Always a treat to see the deer. And congrats to #10- I assume that was your son with the grand slam.
