As the holiday season approaches, I find myself grappling with the idea of going home.
Home – a word heavy with memories, a place where time seems to stand still.
The holidays, wrapped in the warmth of traditions and laughter, are like lightning in a bottle.
The more you try to capture them, the more elusive they become.
I often contemplate the idea of returning, walking through the familiar door, and finding solace in the past.
Yet, as the years pass, it becomes apparent that the home I long for exists in the sweet spot between recollection and reality.
The scent of pine, the crackling fireplace, and the echo of laughter in the air are etched in my mind.
But can we truly recreate those moments?
Or are they destined to remain suspended in the amber of nostalgia?
The older I get, the more I realize that going back isn't about reliving those moments.
It's about attempting to grasp the intangible, to reconnect with a version of ourselves that exists only in the hazy corridors of memory.
This holiday season, as I ponder the journey home that never fully materializes, there's a quiet acknowledgment that perhaps the magic isn't in going back but in carrying those moments forward.
The echo of laughter may fade, but its resonance shapes the person I am today.
Here's to the bittersweet beauty of memories and the unspoken hope that, in chasing the ephemeral, we might stumble upon a new kind of magic.
Let’s get ready to make some memories.

Great point about going home. Love this line: "Its resonance shapes the person I am today."
Have you ever thought about writing a book about the stuff you often write about in this 9AM newsletter? You have a lot of good thoughts about hope and trying to build a future (like with Pine Bluff -- I'm familiar with the area, so understand the struggle). I think a lot of people would like to make a difference in their community but think the problem is too big or they have no idea where to start or that it's hopeless.
Nicely done !!! I might add that my fond memories of my childhood in Catawissa, PA are a wonderful place in time!!!
