He called it “idea sex.”
It sounds salacious!
Almost scandalous.
But the premise is simple.
Take one idea, combine it with another to make something new.
I bet you can think of a hundred examples of it.
I was reading his book when I saw it in action.
There was a movie on TV called “HAPPY DEATH DAY.”
A girl runs from a killer on her birthday, and every time she dies, she wakes up to live the day over again.
I know it was pitched as “Groundhog Day” as a horror film.
Two ideas combined into one, tweaked with a female lead instead of Bill Murray.
Uber is easy access taxis.
AirBnB is houses turned into hotel rooms.
You see how it works.
I think we’re going to have even more in the future.
I hop down rabbit holes all the time, reading and learning about things.
It must drive the algorithms on my smart phone crazy trying to keep up with all I’m exploring.
“Wait, he’s looking at farms and ranches. Wait, now it’s houses under 25k. Wait, now it’s long form audible books. Wait, now it’s short form Audio and Alexa. Wait…”
I’ve told you before, I’m a repository of unconnected information, a jack of all trades for knowing things.
Maybe I said it like this…
I drink and I know things.
Or I borrowed that from a TV Show!
But it’s true.
I do.
What I’m trying to become better at are two things.
Connecting the ideas in an innovative way that benefits the most people.
And executing ideas.
An example are stories I create.
I’ve got six series sitting in folders, all outlined and waiting to happen.
I’ve got the Fort Smith Western series waiting to be done and I want to do it because it could be a TV show.
Which means opening a movie/television studio on the edge of Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Which means reading about Tax breaks for production companies through Economic Development commissions and how to use them to help pitch the idea.
I promise, you want me on a trivia team at the bar.
We would win pitchers all night.
