BARREN – a Battlefield Z story
In the harsh world overrun by the relentless undead, survival was the only option. I was just a kid, thrust into a nightmare, and my only mission was to stay alive.
The moans of the zombies echoed through the desolate city streets. I sprinted down alleyways, my heart pounding, their lifeless eyes locked onto me.
I ducked into an abandoned store, my breath ragged. The stench of decay filled the air, a constant reminder of the horrors lurking outside.
With trembling hands, I pulled a dusty map from a shelf. It was a map of the city's sewer system. I knew this was my only chance.
I slipped back out onto the streets, sprinting again. The zombies were relentless, their decaying arms reaching out for me, their teeth gnashing.
A distant memory surfaced in my mind - my uncle telling me about the old subway station. It was supposed to be the safest place in the city. If I could make it there, I might have a chance.
I ran through the eerily silent streets, my sneakers pounding on the cracked pavement. I had to find the entrance to the subway.
Finally, I saw it, a broken-down sign that read "Subway Station - One Mile." It was my lifeline.
I sprinted down the stairs into the underground, the echoes of my footsteps reverberating in the dimly lit tunnels. The zombies were still following, but their moans grew fainter.
I had to find a way to block their pursuit. My eyes landed on a heap of abandoned construction materials. There was a pile of wooden planks.
I grabbed them and set up a makeshift barricade across the tunnel, buying myself precious time. The groans of the zombies grew louder, but I knew I couldn't stop.
I followed the tracks, deeper into the subway. The tunnels were a maze, and I had to stay sharp.
I rounded a corner, and there it was, the old subway platform. I could hardly believe my eyes. But I had no time for celebration.
I knew the train itself wouldn't work - there was no power. But maybe there was another way to use it.
I found the control room and began fumbling with the switches and levers. I had no idea what I was doing, but I had to try.
Finally, I heard a distant rumble. The subway train started moving. It was old and slow, but it was my ticket out of this hell.
I jumped onto the moving train just as the zombies reached the platform. Their fingers brushed my clothes, but I was safe, at least for now.
The train creaked and groaned, picking up speed as it carried me through the dark tunnels. I didn't know where it was heading, but it had to be better than the surface.
I sat in the dimly lit subway car, my heart still racing. I knew I wasn't out of danger yet.
The train came to a screeching halt, and I knew I had to move quickly. I had no idea what was waiting for me on the other side.
As I stepped out onto the abandoned platform, I saw a glimmer of hope. Sunlight was streaming in from a cracked ceiling. It had been years since I'd seen the sun.
I realized I was in a different part of the city, one that might be less infested with the undead. But I couldn't be sure.
I cautiously made my way up to the surface. The city was in ruins, but it was eerily quiet. Where were the zombies?
I crept along the streets, keeping to the shadows. I had to find supplies, find a way to survive in this new, dangerous world.
As I scoured the abandoned buildings, I finally found a backpack filled with canned food, a first-aid kit, and a water bottle. It was a miracle.
I made my way to a tall building, climbing up the stairs to the rooftop. From there, I could survey the city. What I saw nearly took my breath away.
The zombies had gathered in massive hordes, drawn by something in the distance. It was a building, tall and foreboding. There was something about it that captivated them.
It was my chance. I had to make my move while they were distracted.
I climbed back down and made my way toward the mysterious building, staying hidden as best I could. The closer I got, the more ominous it seemed.
I entered cautiously, my footsteps echoing in the deserted halls. I had to find out what had drawn the zombies here.
As I reached the upper floors, I finally saw it. The building was a research facility, and it had power. Lights flickered on and off, and the hum of generators filled the air.
In one of the rooms, I found screens displaying a message: "Containment breach - High-Level Experiment."
I knew I had stumbled upon something dangerous, but it was also a potential way out. If I could figure out what was going on, I might have a chance to escape.
I reached a laboratory, filled with strange equipment and tanks containing bizarre creatures. And then, I saw it - a capsule with a creature that was unlike anything I'd ever seen. It was the size of a car, with iridescent skin and multiple limbs.
I realized that this creature must have been what had attracted the zombies. It was a force beyond their understanding, a menace that even the undead feared.
As I approached, I noticed a control panel. It had buttons and switches, and I had a daring idea. What if I could somehow manipulate this creature and use it as a distraction?
I began pressing buttons at random, and the room came alive with strange sounds and lights. The capsule began to crack, and the creature inside stirred.
I had to act fast. I sprinted out of the laboratory, back to the rooftop. The zombies were still amassed around the building.
And then, it happened. The creature burst from the building, a radiant, otherworldly being. It emitted a blinding light that drew the attention of every zombie in the vicinity.
I watched in awe as the zombies converged on the creature, their moans filled with fear and fascination. The creature emitted a piercing screech, and the undead fell upon each other, tearing themselves apart.
I couldn't believe my luck. The distraction was massive, and I took full advantage. I ran as fast as I could, leaving the chaos behind.
As I sprinted through the city, I couldn't help but wonder what the future held. The world was still a dangerous place, but I had survived. And maybe, just maybe, I had discovered a way to fight back against the undead.
In this brutal world, survival was everything, and I was determined to keep going, to find a way to take control of my destiny in a world overrun by the walking dead.
