“Is that necessary?” she asked.
It wasn’t.
Nothing is necessary.
Except death.
Some would argue to add taxes to that, but there are so many loopholes around those that one could dedicate their life to avoiding them and succeed.
For while at least.
So death is necessary, but what I was doing was not.
What I was doing was something little to make a tomorrow task a little simpler.
Easier to accomplish.
It was akin to putting my keys and wallet and sunglasses in the exact same spot on the exact same counter since we moved into this place.
My goal is to spend zero time, thought or brain activity on searching for keys and wallet.
It is the same reason I wear an almost uniform every day.
Fashion, for me at least, takes up too much brain space.
I try to do this for a lot of things.
I learned a long time ago that doing little things toward a discipline task makes getting that task done easier.
Like setting out running shoes with socks, though I can’t do that anymore.
The two year old puppy likes to steal socks and turn them into chew toys.
Or writing down today’s to do list yesterday.
Or last night.
Routines help get more done, a lot.
But to get a lot more done, so do micro tasks to set up the success.
And it works.
Except when it doesn’t.
Because sometimes the mind decides to go off on a tangent on it’s own, caught in a loop about how to start a micro-brew in downtown PB, how to write the next urban fantasy novel about a young witch or a Wizard lawman, how to turn a vintage trailer into a $3 Slice food truck.
Or taking out the French Doors on the back patio and adding a slider. Or painting the baseboards and the bathroom.
Or getting the next rehab lined up, or the plan to go “LIVE” on social platforms just so strangers (and some friends) can watch me type this newsletter or the above mentioned urban fantasy story.
Plus the day to day running of a creator business,
plus the day to day living of helping a household with a hospital exec, and a highly ambitious athlete pre-teen
Plus dinner, and dishes and laundry and car work, and homestead work.
And the dogs.
And working out, planning, thinking, reading.
A very long to do list indeed, and probably close to what a lot of people need to get done,
I bet they have a set of tiny little things they do too to help make more happen.
Is it necessary?
Absolutely.
