First Amazon.
Now Substack.
And I guess I get a little bothered about it.
Worse than traffic really.
Maybe I should eat something.
So the best way for me is to explain it, though I may be preaching to a choir.
I got a notice this morning that Substack might be on hold while they investigate something.
After an email yesterday from some Luddite who told me they reported me to the FTC.
Because they couldn’t click the unsubscribe button.
Or got an email after they clicked the unsubscribe button.
I’m not suggesting anyone is technologically challenged.
Maybe the unsub button that worked for hundreds of others didn’t work for them.
Because hundreds of folks have clicked the unsub button at the bottom of every newsletter that goes out.
It’s okay.
They sign up for a free book, but they may not want to feel any nostalgia for the past or wonder at the future that’s coming.
They just want wizards, and zombies and aliens and spies.
I am 100% okay with that.
Click the button, read the free book and let’s part as friends.
BUT…
When someone is unable to figure out something or doesn’t like something and they try to F it up for everyone else, that’s when I get bothered.
I talk about responsibility sometimes.
Accountability.
And when I look at the man in the mirror, I try to remind him that everything is in his control.
How he reacts to the world around him.
That’s what he’s responsible for.
Not blaming people.
Not trying to ruin everyone else’s fun because he’s not having any.
Not trying to destroy something because I don’t like it.
Nope, I realize that there are strokes for folks and if it ain’t my bag, it might be someone else’s.
Take paranormal romance for instance.
Romance is the biggest selling book genre, and paranormal is a huge niche within it.
I could add some romantical (yes, I know, I did it on purpose) elements into the urban fantasy books I write and move into that genre.
Maybe.
I’ve even read a couple of books that fall into that category.
I know romance.
I should.
I was very single for a lot of my years.
But…
I’m not a fan of romance novels.
Biggest shelf in the book selling space and I’m not on it and not a fan of it.
Yet millions of people are.
Which makes me realize that some people like romance books.
And some people don’t.
Some people like mustard on their french fries.
Some don’t.
And a lot of people don’t like beer or coffee or Duke’s Mayo on their Bologna sandwiches.
It’s fine.
The fact that a lot of people don’t like something, but some people do is what makes this big blue rock hurtling through the void interesting.
Until someone tries to impose upon you that you can’t eat or drink or read or do anything they don’t like.
Infringed.
All because they can’t click a button.
Maybe today we try something new.
We open our minds to the possibility that there are 8 billion people on the planet and for the most part, a lot of them don’t hold the same thoughts, wishes, hopes and dreams that we do.
And this world is big enough for all of us.
And if it’s not, well Musk is going to open up a colony on Mars in the next decade, so that’s plenty of time to study science and physics and robotics and earn a spot on the first or second mission.
There is enough to go around.
Enough thoughts. Enough well wishes. Enough solutions to any problems.
And if you don’t like enough, click unsubscribe.
Because there’s room for that too.
I’ll send out a new free book tomorrow, if the appeal works. In the meantime, check out:

PS- I don’t like romance novels either.
What I have read so far seems to be straight to the point. A bit of criticism and a bit of homage. Personally, I have no problems with your views and comments. I like good strong stories that keep the reader wanting more. Like I try to write in all of my books. With some light romance or maybe even just the suggestion. What I really don't care for is when the author starts with a good story line then overshadows it with steamy romance/sex. I'll read "Adult Only" books if I feel I need that. SciFi, Fantasy, Western, Crime, Adventure, Apocalyptic, Mystery, some Horror, Suspense or any combination of these are what makes good reading. Even if there isn't any fighting or larger than life heroes/heroines. Just a good mystery to make the reader use their imagination and mental acuity. Like the great Dame Andre Norton. If a writer wants to write about heavy/steamy romance, let them write a pure Romance book. It's really that simple. That's all I want to say right now.
